Financial markets, innovation and regulation

This study commemorates the 25 th anniversary of The European Journal of Finance (EJF) by providing a detailed retrospective analysis of the journal's output using a range of bibliometric tools. The evidence demonstrates that since its inception the journal has grown consistently in terms of dimension, breadth, quality and reach. The major themes that have come to define the EJF over this time include: portfolio management, stock return persistence, risk management, financing decisions, corporate governance, spillover effects, mutual fund performance, volatility measurement and international finance trends. Co-authorship analysis reveals that the journal has fostered a global network of scholars, reflecting the pervasive nature of collaboration that now extends across the world.

This research article deals with the lead user innovation difficulties in the Kenyan financial technology sector, specifying the regulatory compliance challenges. The flourishing of fintech firms in diverse aspects and sectors have faced numerous dilemmas, particularly in intellectual property, privacy and consumer safety regulations which may lead to lack of adherence. The consequences of non-compliance can be severe, including legal penalties and reputational damage. Despite the importance of innovation in fintech companies, the dilemmas innovators face in navigating regulatory compliance is not yet fully investigated. This research adopts and employs a sequential mixed-method approach that allows complex connection of lead users and regulators in terms of compliance. Survey data from 321 lead users and in-depth interviews with 36 lead users and five regulators revealed a range of compliance challenges. Intellectual property laws scored the least adherence, with the plethora of regulations and overseeing bodies contributing to increased non-compliance. The outcomes highlight the pressing compliance issues faced by lead users and underscore the potential of regulatory bodies to bolster adherence. The outcomes indicate the need for a different approach to regulatory compliance by lead users. This paper underscores the necessity of cooperative engagement between innovators and regulators to effectively maneuver through the dynamic compliance landscape of the financial technology industry.

Öz Ülkelerin ekonomik göstergeleri arasında olan hisse senedi piyasalarına küresel rekabet, üniversite-sanayi işbirliği, küresel inovasyon ve ekonomik büyüklük gibi faktörlerin etkisi günümüzde ilgi çeken konulardır. Çalışmada borsa endeksi (BE), küresel rekabet endeksi (RE) ve küresel rekabet endeksini oluşturan alt değişkenlerden inovasyon kapasitesi endeksi (İKE), kişi başına gayrisafi yurtiçi hâsıla (GSYH) ve araştırma geliştirme faaliyetlerinde üniversite sanayi işbirliği endeksi (ÜSİE) değişkenleri kullanılmıştır. Analizler G20 ülkelerine ait olan 2007-2017 yılları arası panel veri seti ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Westerlund Eşbütünleşme Testi sonuçlarına göre BE ile RE arasında uzun dönem ilişki söz konusu değildir. Panel ARDL modeli sonuçlarına göre ise BE ile İKE, ÜSİE ve GSYH arasında uzun dönem ilişki tespit edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları, dışsal şokların yani olağandışı durumların etkisinin bir dönemde yaklaşık %71'inin hata düzeltme mekanizması ile ortadan kalktığını göstermektedir. Bu değişkenlerin tamamı uzun dönemde BE'ni olumlu etkilemektedir. En fazla etki ise ÜSİE için elde edilmiştir. Üniversitede üretilen bilimin topluma yansıtılmasının ve sanayide kullanılmasının ülke ekonomisi üzerinde olumlu etkileri bulunmaktadır.
