Abstract: BackgroundPathologic evaluation of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) samples is crucial for axillary staging in patients newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Patients with pathologic evidence of nodal metastasis scheduled for upfront surgery typically also undergo axillary lymph node dissection (ALND).
