Fine structure of the incommensurate antiferromagnetic fluctuations in single-crystalline LiFeAs studied by inelastic neutron scattering

Abstract: We present an inelastic neutron scattering study on single-crystalline LiFeAs devoted to the characterization of the incommensurate antiferromagnetic fluctuations at Q = (0.5 ± δ, 0.5 ∓ δ, q l ). Time-of-flight measurements show the presence of these magnetic fluctuations up to an energy transfer of 60 meV, while polarized neutrons in combination with longitudinal polarization analysis on a triple-axis spectrometer prove the pure magnetic origin of this signal. The normalization of the magnetic scattering to a… Show more

“…The incommensurate peaks may arise from nesting of the outer hole or inner hole Fermi surface to the electron Fermi surfaces, which give slightly different incommensurability δ 1 and δ 2 , respectively, as seen in the experiment [ Fig. 1(c) and 1(e)] [22,23]. Figure 2(c) shows identical image of constant energy (E = 7 ± 1 meV) excitations for LiFe 0.88 Co 0.12 As.…”

“…Based on ARPES measurements, the mismatched hole and electron Fermi surfaces should result in the incommensurate spin excitations at δ1 and δ2. “…Furthermore, even in K-overdoped BaFe 2 As 2 11 an anisotropic additional low-energy SRM remains visible ruling out that it just arises from the presence of quasi-static magnetic order. In Co-doped NaFeAs 12, 13 and in Na-doped BaFe 2 As 2 14 the low-energy features even dominate the magnetic scattering in the SC state while there is only an anisotropic shoulder in K-overdoped BaFe 2 As 2 11 and in LiFeAs 15 .…”
