Fingerprint analysis of Cirsium japonicum DC . using high performance liquid chromatography

Abstract: In many areas of China Cirsium setosum is used as Cirsium japonicum DC. Although the two herbs have similar appearance and many similar compounds, they are totally different medicinal material, and have different pharmacodynamic actions. The fingerprint spectrum can be a good tool to distinguish the two herbs and control the quality of Cirsium japonicum DC.In this paper, the chemical fingerprint of Cirsium japonicum DC was established using raw materials from 15 origins in China. The chromatographic separation… Show more

“…엉겅퀴 추출물의 페놀성 화합물 함량 분석 같은 종의 식물이라도 자생하는 지역의 환경(기후, 토양, 지형 등)에 따라 함유하는 성분의 종류 및 함량이 다르며 그에 따른 생리활성이 달라진다 (7,11). 또한, Cirsium 종은 외관상의 구분이 어려워 혼용하여 사용되는 경우가 많으며 그들의 생리활성은 각 각 다를 수 있다.…”

“…In Chinese folk medicine, it is widely used as an antihemorrhagic, antihypertensive and diuretic agent as well as an antiviral agent; see Czygan (2004). According to the data from Ge et al (2013), which are analyzed here, pectolinarin constitutes as much as 53.89% of known natural compounds in leaves of thistle (Cirsium japonicum). Moreover, it was reported by Cho et al (2016) that in C. japonicum leaves pectolinarin constitutes 0.1% of the extract obtained in the experiment and pectolinarin content in leaves of Cirsium species was higher than that in the root and pappus.…”

“…Silymarin is the key component of S. marianum and includes flavonolignans (silibinin, isosilibinin, silychristin, isosilychristin, and silydianin) and a flavonoid (taxifolin). Studies suggest that silymarin exerts a protective effect on the liver in alcoholic-induced liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative liver [1, 5]. This major bioactivity has also been reported in C. japonicum DC, which has properties similar to those of S. marianum [6].…”

“…Cirsium japonicum is a wild perennial herb found in many areas of Korea, Japan, and China. C. japonicum is used as an anti-haemorrhagic, anti-hypertensive and uretic agent in traditional Chinese medicine [1]. In traditional medicine, C. japonicum is sometimes used for the management of different types of cancer, including liver and uterine cancer and leukaemia [2].…”
