Finite Element Analysis of Ewecs Columns With Varying Shear Span Ratio

Abstract: ABSTRACT:A new hybrid structural column system called Engineering Wood Encased Concrete-Steel (EWECS) column was developed for low and high seismic zones. Experimental studies on the seismic behavior of EWECS columns with varying shear span to depth ratio (shear-span ratio) have been conducted by one of the authors. To complement and validate the experimental program, finite element analysis (FEA) on EWECS columns with varying shear-span ratio ranging 1.0 to 2.0 under constant axial and lateral cyclic loads ar… Show more

“…The yield strength of steel flange and web in the FE model are 293.6 and 313.3 MPa, respectively. In this analysis, the perfectly elasticplastic criterion material was used for the encased steel [8]. The stress-strain curve for flange and web was input into the ANSYS package, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Experimental and analytical studies on seismic behavior of EWECS columns have been carried out, including the parameter of double and single H-section encased steel and shear span ratio [2][3][4]. The results show that EWECS had excellent seismic behavior with a stable spindle-shaped hysteresis curve.…”

“…Fig. 1 Schematic view of EWECS structural system [2]- [4] In the previous experimental study [3], two EWECS column specimens were tested: Specimens WC1 (without shear studs) and WC1-S (with shear studs). The influence of shear studs was examined by comparing these two specimens.…”
