Finite Element Analysis Of Modified Conebolt Under Static And Dynamic Loadings

Abstract: Axisymmetric finite element models are developed to simulate static pull test and dynamic drop test of MCB33 (modified conebolt with full dedonding) using ABAQUS. Results from the numerical models are in reasonable agreement with the test results. A parametric study is performed considering various variables (i.e. friction, cone angle, material strength, etc.) to analyze the performance of MCB33. The results demonstrate that friction between the steel and resin, cone angle, and the Poisson's ratio of the resin… Show more

“…Bolts with yielding sections formed from smooth bars are available on the market, similar to the Secura bolt (Cai, Champaigne, and Kaiser, 2010;Charette et al, 2014;Doucet and Voyzelle, 2012;Guntumadugu, 2013;Li, Stjern, and Myrvang, 2014;Ghorbani et al, 2020;Nguyen, Cai, and Challagulla, 2018;Raju, Mitri, and Thibodeau, 2011;Yokota et al, 2020), such as the cone bolt, D-bolt, Garford solid bolt, and others. This is why the experience gained during the dynamic testing of Secura bolts could be utilized for other types of threaded bolts that are subjected to dynamic loading by means of tensile axial force.…”

“…For initial models, the material properties were either measured through laboratory testing or obtained from the literature (Nguyen et al 2018) to best represent each model component. The three main components of concern were the encapsulate resin, SDA and the rockbolt.…”
