Finite Element Modeling of Circular Reinforced Concrete Column Confined With CFRP Under Eccentric Loading

Abstract: This paper presents nonlinear finite element analysis of eccentrically loaded circular Reinforced Concrete (RC) column confined with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) wraps. The concrete constitutive model uses a plasticityfracture model which is restraint sensitive, utilize a non-constant plastic dilation rate, and is able to simulate the plastic volumetric compaction of concrete core under high confining pressure. For validation of the models, two available specimens from the literature are used in the … Show more

“…(6) Under eccentric load, the maximum load has an enormously decreased while the eccentricity magnitude increased. (7) Increasing the number of CFRP layers leads to an increasing in the load and the performance of columns under each case of loading. (8) There is a sharp decline in the axial deflection values as long as the value of eccentricity is increased which leads to decrease ductility.…”

“…Although reinforced concrete columns resist eccentric loads, many researchers have studied the behavior of reinforced concrete columns with external confinement under concentric load [1]. In recent years, many investigations have been tested on circular concrete columns with external carbon fibers under eccentric loads [4][5][6][7]. In this investigation, the effect of cross-section aspect ratio and load eccentricity on large-scale RC columns will be tested.…”

“…The concrete constitutive model in 3D-NLFEA is similar to that of the plasticity-fracture model in the ATENA software package [5,15] . One can also find some examples of using the 3D-NLFEA finite element package in modeling RC structures in Christianto et al [16] , Prasetyo et al [17] , Alius et al [18] .…”
