First-class variability modeling in Matlab/Simulink

Abstract: Modern cars exist in an vast number of variants. Thus, variability has to be dealt with in all phases of the development process, in particular during model-based development of software-intensive functionality using Matlab/Simulink. Currently, variability is often encoded within a functional model leading to so called 150%-models which easily become very complex and do not scale for larger product lines. To counter these problems, we propose a modular variability modeling approach for Matlab/Simulink based on … Show more

“…In addition, we plan to extend the delta-oriented architecture testing approach to real-world ADL along the lines of the existing integration of delta modeling into Matlab/Simulink (Haber et al, 2013). We will investigate further criteria for supporting the selection of the core system and investigate the impact of choosing different core systems as well as different orderings for testing the subsequent variants on the efficiency of our proposed testing approach.…”

“…DM is also already applied to embedded software systems. For instance, state-of-the-art research focuses on MATLAB/Simulink models in the automotive domain [37,38]. Research on variability modeling for aPS is still in an early stage.…”

“…An example Simulink-specific approach to encoding variability is accomplished by Haber et al [9], who note that functional-modeling approaches for representing Simulink variability are often complex and do not scale well to larger systems. Thus, they propose Delta Simulink, which is a firstclass language that includes single step operations like add, remove, modify, and replace.…”

“…Many methods have been proposed for analyzing variability from a requirements point of view, as well as connecting that to the implementation [9], [15]. However, there remains a need for techniques that analyze existing system requirements and implementations for commonality and variability in an automated way.…”
