“…Moreover, deviant boundary conditions during this early period (see above) complicate such comparisons. Anyhow, this estimate is roughly consistent with multiproxy data of the Holocene thermal optimum from various parts of the Scandes and the northwestern seaboard of Europe (Vorren & Stavseth 1996;Barnett et al 2001;Jensen et al 2002;Bigler et al 2003;Hammarlund et al 2004), although the data presented here place the optimum phase somewhat earlier. In general terms, the tree-line chronology presented in this study corroborates the Holocene arboreal history inferred from stratigraphic data, including pollen and plant macrofossils obtained from a site in the same area (Bergman et al 2005).…”

“…The glacier subsequently receded further inland, halting at the Alapmoen locality (AL event) and depositing a large sandur delta around 9200 14 C yr BP according to the ML correlation. A dating of fossil birch in Dividalen, c. 35 km southeast of (up-valley) Alapmoen gave an age of 9060 14 C yr BP (Jensen et al 2002), indicating that the glacier had receded far inland by this time, probably beyond the inner limit of the ML in the Øverbygd area.…”

“…The abundance of each macrofossil type is presented as number or relative abundance of 100 mL of sediment (cf. Jensen et al, 2002b). The winged nuts from Betula and Alnus are termed 'seeds'.…”
