“…The first apogonid fish, Apogon pharaonis (Bellotti, 1874), was collected by Haas and Steinitz in 1947 at the Palestinian coast in the Mediterranean Sea (Golani et al., ). Since the millennium, the other sequential Apogon fish records have been: A. queketti Gilchrist, 1903 from Iskenderun Bay, Turkey in October 2004 (Eryılmaz and Dalyan, ); A. smithi Kotthaus, 1970 from Israel in March 2007 (Golani et al., ); A. fasciatus (White, 1790) from Israel in December 2008 (Goren et al., ) and Cheilodipterus novemstriatus (Rüppell, 1838) from Israel in June 2010 (Goren et al., ). There are now six Apogon fish species as well as the native A. imberbis (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Mediterranean.…”
