First Report of Chromosome Analysis of Two Dragonets (Perciformes, Callionymidae)

Abstract: We report the first chromosome analysis in the ocellated dragonet (Synchiropus ocellatus) and picturesque dragonet (S. picturatus) from Thailand. Kidney cell samples were taken from five male and five female fishes. The mitotic chromosome preparation was prepared directly from kidney cells. Conventional and Ag-NOR staining techniques were applied to stain the chromosomes. The results showed that the diploid chromosome number of S. ocellatus and S. picturatus were 2n=40, and the fundamental number (NF) was 40 i… Show more

“…He and his coworkers have published 92 articles, reporting the karyotypes of at least 124 species in Cytologia since his first such work in 2005. At least 32 of these karyotypes were the first to be reported worldwide, including those of Fibramia lateralis (Kasiroek et al 2017a), Pterapogon kauderni (Kasiroek et al 2017b), Chaetodon decussatus, C. lineolatus (Supiwong et al 2017a), C. triangulum, C. andamanensis (Supiwong et al 2017b), Synchiropus ocellatus, S. picturatus (Kasiroek et al 2017c), Axis axis (Khongcharoensuk et al 2017), Plectorhinchus pictus (Jantarat et al 2017a), Micronema cheveyi (Pinthong et al 2017b), Scolopsis vosmeri (Patawang et al 2017d), and Crassostrea iredalei (Chooseangjaew et al 2018).
