“…Here we report the first record of this species in the state of Amazonas, within the Amazon region, Brazil, where in recent years there have been several new reports of other triatomine species (Ferreira and Souto 2013, Obara et al 2013, Meneguetti et al 2011, 2015, Terrasini et al 2017, Rosa et al 2017, Castro et al 2018. The occurrence of sylvatic species invading human dwellings is a major difficulty for vector surveillance programs and a challenge for understanding the magnitude of the risk of Trypanosoma cruzi transmission.…”

“…Although vector-borne transmissions by wild triatomine can possibly occur, either through direct contact with forest areas or by intrusion of these insects in an individual's home, it is possible that the data reported as vector-borne transmission have not been adequately investigated to prove this form of transmission 22 .…”

“…Among the autochthonous triatomines of Brazil, Panstrongylus megistus (Burmeister, 1835) is considered the vector of greatest epidemiological importance of Chagas disease due to its high capacity to invade and colonize domestic buildings, high levels of infection with T. cruzi , eclectic blood-feeding and a wide geographical distribution in Brazil, ranging from the state of Maranhão to the state of Rio Grande do Sul [ 4 – 7 ]. In recent years, the presence of P. megistus has also been reported in the Brazialn states of Acre and Rondônia [ 8 ].…”
