First report of Sarcoptes scabiei parasitism (Sarcoptiformes: Sarcoptidae) in Lycalopes sechurae (Mammalia: Carnivora)

Abstract: We present the first report of parasitism by Sarcoptes scabiei (Linnaeus, 1758), in a sechuran fox “Lycalopex sechurae”. Sarcoptes scabiei is a mite that produces sarcoptic mange, which can lead to the death of the animal host and can cause epidemic episodes in wildlife communities. The sechuran fox was collected by the environmental police from a citizen who reported the animal.
