First Report of Tomato mottle mosaic virus Infection of Pepper in China

Abstract: Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV), a tentative member in genus Tobamovirus, was first reported from a greenhouse tomato sample collected in Mexico in 2013 (2). In August 2013, foliar mottle, shrinking, and necrosis were observed on pepper plants in several vegetable greenhouses of Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. “…The latter infects tomato as well and does not overcome the resistance genes [41, 42]. Following those reports, ToMMV was identified in U.S.A. [4345], on pepper in China [46] and on tomatoes in Israel [47] and in Spain [48]. In contrast to the report of ToMMV on tomatoes in Israel, our epidemiological studies showed no evidence for ToMMV.…”

“…ToMMV is present in Mexico (Li et al, 2013), USA (Webster et al, 2014), China (Li et al, 2014), Iran and Brazil. The report from Brazil is the first linked to a sequence in the GenBank database corresponding to ToMMV (Moreira et al, 2003); the sequences from Iran corresponding to ToMMV were deposited in GenBank before the characterisation of the virus as a new tobamovirus species.…”
