However, the behavioral, structural and neurochemical effects of drugs appear not only to be determined by the pharmacological properties of the drug itself, but to be also influenced by nonpharmacological factors, such as genetic susceptibility and environmental factors, (Cadoni, ; Giorgi, Piras, Lecca, & Corda, ), which play a pivotal role in modulating neuroadaptive responses to chronic drug use.
