Fluids are pumped through circular conduits in various operations in the petroleum industry. These fluids may be Newtonian or non-Newtonian, clean or proppant-laden, polymer-based or surfactantbased, single-phase or multiphase, drag-reducing, and others. They are pumped through straight and coiled tubing under laminar-or turbulent-flow conditions. Calculation of frictional pressure losses for these circumstances is crucial for the success of the operation.A simple Darcy-Weisbach (Darcy 1857) equation is widely used to calculate frictional pressure losses in pipes. However, a unique term, friction factor, has to be determined. Enormous numbers of correlations are available to determine the friction factor. These correlations vary in complexity and applicability and have their own positive and negative features. In addition, several parameters included in the correlations have to be identified, and they vary from one correlation to another. The task at hand is determining the proper correlation. Estimating the friction factor is not an easy task, and it can be very confusing. Inaccurate estimation may lead to erroneous results and failure of operations.This study provides a comprehensive review of the frictionfactor correlations and presents how to select the most-suitable correlation for specific conditions. It discusses the parameters involved in friction-factor calculation and how to define them. The authors compare and question the applicability, accuracy, and limitations of each correlation to propose the most-accurate ones. An innovative, user-friendly, and step-by-step code using the most widely used and accurate correlations can then be developed to predict the friction factor. The present study is an effort to simplify the friction-factor challenge. It aims at providing the mostaccurate friction-factor correlations to overcome the complexity faced when calculating frictional pressure losses. In conclusion, it summarizes the state of the art in the field of fluids and hydraulics in the oil and gas industry.ST and CT. Fishing operations are complex and time consuming. This is due to the associated uncertainty with the orientation and condition of the tool that requires fishing. In this paper, a case study is presented which demonstrates the usefulness of utilizing downhole camera technology in conjunction with fishing operations. The use of real time camera inspection enabled successful fishing of a challenging plug. In addition, the traditional trial and error approach used in most fishing operations was avoided reducing the operation time and cost. The paper case study is a high pressure oil producer that has a stuck retrievable plug at 200 ft. The presence of the fish at a shallow depth makes well intervention operations critical from well control perspectives. In such cases, fishing operations must be meticulously designed to account and plan for contingencies should complications arise during fishing. Attempts to fish the plug using normal and heavy duty slickline were not successful. During these fishing attempts, several tools were lost in hole due to the damaged nature of the stuck plug adding to the complexity of the fishing operation. To address this challenge, a downhole camera with real time data transmission capability was run in the well using coiled tubing to enable viewing the condition and orientation of the lost fishing tools and the stuck plug. The results of the camera inspection runs were instrumental in subsequent fishing tools selection and adjusting the operating procedures. The first camera run revealed the presence of metal objects obstructing proper latch to the fish neck. Following clean-up runs with magnet, the second camera inspection run clearly showed partial damage to the top of fish neck (chipped out metal piece). The rest of the fishneck was found intact. Given the nature of damage to the top of the fishneck, conventional fishing tool sizes (3 in.) were not able to latch the fish. Accordingly, a smaller fishing tool (1.26 in. spear) was run and latched inside the bottom of the fish neck instead of the damaged top. The 1.26 in. spear run was successful in latching inside the fishneck and in recovering the fish safely. The fishing operation design, job execution, and contingencies will all be discussed in this paper.

While the industry has many recommendations on fishing operations and setups, a process of the selection for overshots, and a streamline when similar fish or wellbore conditions has not been discussed before. This paper will review a challenging case history well, with multiple fishes of the same type, and the lessons learned on selections with varying wellbore conditions. Taking into measure was the learnings from the post well review, and the creation of a flowchart to better optimize the selection of fishing Bottom Hole Assembly's (BHA). This incorporated the coordination of charts’ creation with the service provider, ensured a robust process with multiple choices and supportive reasoning for selection. The well primarily discussed in this paper, was a horizontal well in a tight gas field. The knowledge gained from the multiple fishes in the case study horizontal well, streamlined future choices in BHA selections for similar fishes. As an operator, having the flowchart encourages more discussion with the service company, and supports the engineers in planning operations.
