Fitness Level Differences between Students in Kosovo and Montenegro

Abstract: Geographical, cultural, and socio-economic factors create a different lifestyle. Accordingly, the aim of this research was to identify the differences in anthropometric and fitness characteristics among adolescents living in Montenegro and Kosovo in order to optimize the physical fitness as a consequence of the proactive behavior. Anthropometric characteristics and fitness level measures were assessed by Eurofit testing battery among 600 Kosovar and 600 Montenegrin students, equally distributed by gender. Diff… Show more

“…As an important part of the national strategy of “Healthy China”, the development of students’ physical fitness, along with the process of China’s economic development, is a topic of concern. The development of economic factors can have an impact on people’s physical fitness to some extent, and some studies have shown that a higher economy can lead to a lower prevalence of obesity, which corroborates the results we obtained [ 98 , 99 , 100 ]. From the perspective of this study, the non-farm industrial structure ratio has a positive effect on promoting the physical fitness of Chinese adolescents, while the distribution of the spatial pattern of the influence of the non-farm industrial establishment ratio across gender groups shows that, firstly, the industrial structure in the western region needs to be upgraded, and the local resource as well as environmental conditions, regional location, and accessibility should be considered.…”

“…Adolescent males showed a higher level of physical activity than females, in line with previous research [ 7 , 17 ]. With respect to physical fitness, males obtained higher scores in all the variables analyzed, except for the sit-and-reach test, corroborating the results of previous research [ 10 , 73 ]. As for the anthropometric variables, it was the females who obtained higher scores in the variables related to fat mass, highlighting the percentage of total fat or the sum of three skinfolds, while the males showed greater muscle mass and corrected girth, with these results being similar to those obtained previously in adolescents [ 10 ].…”

“…For teenagers in Kosovo, in the Flamingo test, girls perform better only for the 14-15 years old age group, then boys get superior performance [48]. Balanced values between Montenegrin and Kosovo teenagers in the Flamingo test are obtained by Morina et al [49]. Long-term application of fitness programs (3 years x 3 sessions / week x 90 min) and their combination with diet positively influences the performance of fitness tests, including the Flamingo test, for boys aged 8-11 years [50].…”
