Flame retardant exposure: polybrominated diphenyl ethers in blood from Swedish workers

Abstract: Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are used as additives in polymers and teiles to prohibit the development offires. Because ofthe production and use of PBDEs, the lipophilic haracteristics, and persistence, these compounds have become ubiquitous environmental con aminants. The aim of the present study was to determine potential exposures of PBDE to derks working filltime at computer screen and persomnnel at an elecnics-disntling plant, with hospitl deaners as a control group. Five PBDE congeners-2,2',4,4'… Show more

“…Most methods developed in the past for the determination of PBDEs in human serum employed liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) [10][11][12] which has the disadvantages of being laborious. Recent methods take advantage of solid-phase extraction (SPE) techniques and several sorbents have been already tested [13][14][15].…”

“…The presented values in Table 5 for TBBP-A are therefore the sum of TBBP-A and methylated TBBP-A. The concentration ranged from <LOQ (0.1 ng/g lipids) to 2.0 ng/g lipids, which is in the same order of magnitude as reported in the very limited number of studies available on TBBP-A in human samples [44,45].…”
