Flexible 16 Antenna Array for Microwave Breast Cancer Detection

Abstract: Radar-based microwave imaging has been widely studied for breast cancer detection in recent times. Sensing dielectric property differences of tissues has been studied over a wide frequency band for this application. We design single- and dual-polarization antennas for wireless ultrawideband breast cancer detection systems using an inhomogeneous multilayer model of the human breast. Antennas made from flexible materials are more easily adapted to wearable applications. Miniaturized flexible monopole and spiral … Show more

“…Afterwards, the controlling device triggered the VNA to start the measurement of the backscattering (S) parameters (S11, S21, S12 and S22) over the entire operating band and transmitted from the VNA to the PC by using the GPIB port. Subsequently, data were processed using the Delay-Multiply-and–Sum (DMAS) algorithm14 to reconstruct the image in the frequency domain, and an inverse discrete Fourier transform…”

“…The multi-static radar system uses an antenna array and a complex switch network controller1415. The antenna array normally consists of more than four antennas to collect a large number of transmission coefficients and thus obtain images of high resolution.…”

“…This kind of substrate allows the elements to take the shape of the breast, maintaining adequate coverage over the area under study between 2 and 5 GHz. Adding reflectors behind the array improves the power gain and the ability to detect the presence of tumor [47]. The mentioned findings were the basis for the design shown on Figure 13.…”
