Flexible Mode Control of Grid Connected Wind Energy Conversion System Using Wavelet

Abstract: Small wind turbine systems offer services to critical loads during grid faults and also connected back to grid in normal condition. The connection of a wind energy conversion system to the grid requires a robust phase locked loop (PLL) and continuous monitoring of the grid conditions such as overvoltage, undervoltage, overfrequency, underfrequency, and grid outages. This paper describes a flexible control operation to operate a small wind turbine in both stand-alone mode via planned islanding and grid connecte… Show more

“…Variations in solar radiation create variations in the operating point of solar cells, i.e., operating voltage and current. The voltage can be regulated because of power supply system with no current, every effort must be made to keep the voltage within a set and acceptable range to ensure that PV generators connected to distribution networks do not degrade power quality [12].…”

“…Lower order harmonics are reduced on the grid side [11]. A proportional-integral (PI) controller and an LCL filter are used to improve power quality [12], [13]. PI, fuzzy, and artificial neural network (ANN) are used in tandem to achieve appropriate system control performance.…”

“…The vital factors which have stimulated the use of RERs are energy independence, financial viability, and mainly environmental protection [1]. The problem of oil crises (1973)(1974)(1975)(1976)(1977)(1978)(1979)(1980)(1981)(1982)(1983) and environmental pollution concerns urged engineers to harvest electrical energy from the available RERs, for example, wind energy [2][3][4][5], solar energy [6][7][8][9], and hydro power [10]. As the RER is variable and unpredictable, different types of converters and controls are associated with the RER-based power plants that are connected with standalone or grid systems [11,12].…”
