Flexible on-device service object replication with replets

Abstract: An increasingly large amount of such applications employ service objects such as Servlets to generate dynamic and personalized content. Existing caching infrastructures are not well suited for caching such content in mobile environments because of disconnection and weak connection. One possible approach to this problem is to replicate Web-related application logic to client devices. The challenges to this approach are to deal with client devices that exhibit huge divergence in resource availabilities, to suppo… Show more

“…However, data synchronization issues in mobile networks are more challenging due to the limitations imposed on bandwidths in wireless networks and the intermittent loss in connectivity. These challenges lead to high communication latency during update managements and sometimes updates are unsuccessfully propagated when the mobile is in a disconnected state [9,10].…”

“…The power of m-commerce is primarily due to the anytime-anywhere connectivity of wireless devices, which provide enormous opportunities for business process innovation and location-sensitive services (Zwass, 2003). And with the increasing popularity of mobile appliances, the most effective means of providing these services in a wireless mobile environment should be found (Zhou, Islam, & Ismael, 2004). However, careful consideration should be taken when developing mobile commerce applications since they are utilized in different contexts from those typical e-commerce, they are mobility and portability.…”
