Flipped classroom in the second decade of the Millenia: a Bibliometrics analysis with Lotka’s law

Abstract: This paper aims to examine the current dynamics of the flipped classroom studies and to propose a direction for future research for the field. Using a bibliometric approach, we observe a sample of 1557 documents from the Scopus database to identify research activity on the flipped classroom. The keywords “flipped classroom” and “flipped learning” have been executed in the search query. We presented the earlier stage of research in the flipped classroom, the subsequent trends, publications status based on sourc… Show more

“…However, in terms of scientific productivity pattern, as the number of publications contributed increased, the number of authors declined. This was consistent with Lotka’s Law (Lotka, 1926 ), which stated that single-publication authors are far more likely to conduct subsequent research on similar research areas (Rowlands, 2005 ; Kushairi and Ahmi, 2021 ).…”

“…In contrast to other authors (Zappatore et al (2015) who perform an eminently quantitative approach in their analyses, this paper follows the line of Heradio et al (2016) by providing a dual quantitative-qualitative approach. Thus, our analysis is not limited to counting articles, authors or journals, but describes and comments on the most relevant data for the RV community (Bardakci et al, 2022;Kushairi & Ahmi, 2021). The articles were listed in descending order according to the number of citations to find the main topics addressed and describe the documents that are considered the most important.…”

“…It is also a useful discipline used to reveal trends over time and identify the most influential authors and affiliations (Aria & Cuccurullo, 2017 ). Bibliometric analysis is considered an important tool for assessment and evaluation of academic research outcomes (Bardakci et al, 2021 ; Kushairi & Ahmi, 2021 ; Martínez et al, 2015 ; Song et al, 2019 ).Bibliometric analysis has also been used to examine changing perspectives, voices, and interpretations of theory, findings, and practice in a particular journal. For example, Cobo et al ( 2015 ) in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of Knowledge-Based Systems, a bibliometric analysis of the journal's scientific article content between 1991 and 2014 was carried out to describe the journal's conceptual evolution.…”
