Flocculation of alkyl ketene dimer and calcium carbonate on paper sizing and filling performance

Abstract: In order to solve the conflict between precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) filling and alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) sizing for paper, this study explored two new flocculation methods: AKD and PCC were flocculated separately in the process ((A)(P)F), while the two pre-flocs from AKD and PCC were blended in the process ((AP)F).
