Flood Risk Zonation Using a Multi-Criteria Spatial Group Fuzzy-Ahp Decision Making and Fuzzy Overlay Analysis

Abstract: Abstract. In this study, a GIS based approach has been proposed for the flood risk zonation based on a multi-criteria spatial group fuzzy AHP decision making analysis and its integration with fuzzy overlay analysis. For this purpose, 10 layers affecting flood occurrence have been used including: the Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Slope, NDVI, Flow Accumulation (Flow Ac.), HOFD, VOFD, Topographic Position Index (TPI), Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), Curve Number (CN), Modified Fournier Index. Each layer was cl… Show more

“…After generating the fuzzy membership functions, the fuzzy overlay analysis is performed using ArcMap 10.8. Recent studies have utilized fuzzy overlay analysis for different applications (Hasanloo et al,2019;Mallik et al, 2021). Using the fuzzy overlay tool in ArcMap, a multicriteria overlay analysis can examine the likelihood that a phenomenon belongs to many sets.…”

“…The fuzzy overlay method utilizes mathematical or logical functions to rank and integrate data that is difficult to measure, leading to a scale of suitability (Mitchell, 2012). It enables the examination of the likelihood of a condition being part of various sets in a multicriteria overlay study (Hasanloo et al, 2019). The fuzzy overlay is utilized to ascertain the potential membership of the phenomenon in member sets (Vojteková & Vojtek, 2019), and it also examines the associations among the memberships of multiple sets (Baidya et al, 2014;Akgun et al, 2012).…”

“…This allows the researchers to cater the index towards the unique vulnerabilities of the local population. This knowledge can also give researchers the ability to use this expert opinion in weighing individual factors more within the indexing processes (Hasanloo et al, 2019).…”

“…Artigas et al (2016) and Percival (2019) used no weighting scheme; therefore, each attribute equally influenced the end score. Other studies utilized expert opinion to create a weighting scheme (Rincón et al, 2018;Hasanloo et al, 2019), with an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) utilized to determine the final weighting scheme. It was determined to use an equal weighting scheme, except for elevation due to its prevalence in the literature, and impact on all three types of flood.…”
