These regions display a great variety of climates and environments, giving rise to different types of vegetation, some of these being the habitats where the Hechtioideae thrive, such as deciduous tropical forests and xeric shrublands (Espejo-Serna et al 2005, Rzedowski 2006, Espejo-Serna et al 2010, López-Ferrari & Espejo-Serna 2014a.
