This study aimed to record the occurrence of the species Aristolochia bahiensis F. González in an area of the territory of the State of Maranhão, Brazil. The species was collected in the city of Timon, in an area of tension that brings together characteristics of the Cerrado, adjacent to Mata Ciliar. The study provides a brief characterization of the botanical family and descriptions of the genus and species, as well as data on its distribution. The species had already been found in the states of Alagoas, Bahia and Espírito Santo. In addition to portraying the geographic occurrence of the plant, a morphological characterization of the species was made, with the assembly of a board with images of the most relevant aspects of its morphology in addition to maps with its location. Novo registro de Aristolochia bahiensis F.Gonzalez para o Estado do Maranhão, Brasil R E S U M OEste trabalho teve como objetivo registrar a ocorrência da espécie Aristolochia bahiensis F. González em área do território do Estado do Maranhão, Brasil. A espécie foi coletada na cidade de Timon, em área de tensão que reúne características de Cerrado, em adjacência com Mata Ciliar. O estudo traz uma breve caracterização da família botânica e descrições sobre o gênero e a espécie, além de dados sobre sua distribuição. A espécie já tinha sido encontrada nos estados de Alagoas, Bahia e Espírito Santo. Além de retratar ocorrência geográfica da planta foi feita uma caracterização morfológica da espécie, com a montagem de uma prancha com imagens dos aspectos mais relevantes da sua morfologia além de mapas com sua localização.Palavras-chave: Aristolochiaceae, Aristolochia, Aristolochia bahiensis, Área de Tensão Ecológica, Cerrado, Mata Ciliar, Bacia do Rio Parnaíba, Nordeste Brasil.

“…Dentre os estudos taxonômicos realizados nas últimas décadas sobre a família na Mata Atlântica, destacam-se os estudos regionais realizados para a região Nordeste (Araújo 2013a(Araújo , 2013bAbreu & Giulietti 2016a) e Sul do Brasil (Nascimento 2008), para o estado de São Paulo (Capellari 1991), além de descrições de novos táxons (González 1998(González , 2000Araújo & Alves 2013;Abreu & Giulietti 2016b;Freitas et al 2017). Resumo Aristolochiaceae Juss. (Piperales) é constituída por aproximadamente 600 espécies, das quais 550 pertencem ao gênero Aristolochia, sendo o Brasil representado por 92 espécies, 39 delas na Mata Atlântica. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo documentar a diversidade taxonômica de Aristolochiaceae no estado do Espírito Santo (ES). Expedições para coleta de material botânico foram realizadas de fevereiro/2014 a agosto/2015. As principais coleções do estado (CVRD, MBML e VIES) e de estados vizinhos (RB, R, HUEFS, ALCB) foram consultadas para análise de espécimes, além de coleções online (C, CEPEC, F, HRCB, K, M, MBM, MPU, P, S e SP). Um total de 20 espécies foi registrado para o estado: Aristolochia arcuata, A. assisii , A. bahiensis , A. chamissonis, A. cymbifera, A. cynanchifolia, A. elegans, A. gigantea, A. aff. gigantea, A. gracilipedunculata, A. hypoglauca, A. labiata, A. longispathulata, A. melastoma, A. nevesarmondiana, A. pubescens, A. subglobosa, A. tamnifolia, A. trilobata e A. zebrina. Uma espécie enquadra-se na categoria Vulnerável (VU), oito na categoria Em Perigo (EN) e quatro em Criticamente Ameaçada (CR). O número de espécies encontradas acrescenta 9 táxons na lista de espécies conhecidas para o ES (aumento de 81%), demonstrando a importância de coletas para o Espírito Santo e conhecimento de sua flora.

Aristolochia hypoglauca and A. paulistana (Aristolochiaceae) are two species that inhabit the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. They highly resemble each other especially on the size and overall shape of the caudate perianth, which causes confusion in herbaria determinations. We applied geometric morphometrics (GM) to overcome this taxonomic uncertainty. GM was based on the landmark method applied to leaves of all specimens available mostly in Brazilian herbaria. The GM results supported the recognition of the two species, as the two principal components were responsible for 94.97% of the variation assessed through the principal component analysis (PCA). The Discriminant Function and the Cross-validation tests resulted in the maximum percentage of correctly classified cases (100%). The Procrustes distance (0.2252; p< 0.0001), and the Mahalanobis Distance (8.4473; p< 0.0001) provide statistical support for leaf shape differences with taxonomic significance. Thus, we revisit the taxonomy and comparative morphology of both species, and compare them with other Aristolochia species with caudate floral limb native to Brazil, and commented the phenology, distribution and habitat, and conservation status. Additionally, we proposed the epitypification of A. hypoglauca, given that the holotype does not fulfill the purpose of precise application of the name.
