The Parque Estadual Mata Atlântica (PEMA), Goiás state, Brazil, is an Atlantic Forest reserve which has not been studied yet. The aims were to investigate plant biodiversity and characterize the flora to support the management plan. We adopt the point-centered quarter method to inventory the tree-shrub and lianas with the diameter at breast height more than or equal to 5 cm. The study was performed through 1.86 km of transect with 187 sampled points. We sampled 748 individuals and identified 109 species, 82 genera, and 51 families. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index ( ) was 3.97, and Pielou's evenness ( ) was 0.846, both considered high. The Fabaceae family was the most diverse with 20 species. Aspidosperma polyneuron, an endangered tree species, had greater relative dominance and importance value. The floristic similarity analysis indicated that the PEMA vegetation belongs to the seasonal forest, currently very fragmented and degraded. Due to several anthropogenic threats, we suggest the following recommendations: prevent the exploitation of species, avoid hunting, control invasive grasses, prevent forest fires, and promote environmental education. This study demonstrates the importance of PEMA for species conservation. Therefore, this study is essential for the development of management plan and the conservation of PEMA biodiversity.

The objective of this article is to present the importance of the Cerrado in the ecological and social cohesion of the country, as it is the second largest biome in Brazil and covers approximately 23% of the country. Its magnitude is so great that it makes it the second largest floristic group in the country. Brazil is a country of extraordinary biodiversity, with a wide variety of organisms present in all biomes, especially the Cerrado, which has been devastated by human actions. The Brazilian Savannah is one of the most strategically important regions in the world, mainly for agriculture, crop irrigation, mining, power generation, and the supply of people and animals. Rich in its biodiversity, it provides several essential ecosystem resources to the planet. The destruction of the Cerrado can lead to the loss of species and ecosystem services, negatively impacting the planet. It is extremely important that measures are taken for the preservation of this biome. The protection and preservation of this valuable biome is in line with some of the Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 2 - Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture, is based on the principle of eradicating hunger, achieving food security and better nutrition through the promotion of sustainable agriculture. The proposal is that this goal can be achieved by 2030. Based on the numerous scientific records that prove the nutritional potential of the fruits of the Cerrado, enabling better nutrition for its consumers, it is necessary to encourage the sustainable cultivation and consumption of its fruits, perpetuation of the native trees of the Cerrado that provide not only nutritional benefits, but environmental, social and economic benefits.

Objetivo: Este trabalho objetivou, por meio da descrição da estrutura anatômica e da condutividade hidráulica da madeira, contribuir com a caracterização da espécie Bauhinia ungulata L. (Fabaceae) com distribuição no Cerrado, além de levantar seus usos tradicionais. Métodos: A espécie estudada foi coletada na formação de Cerrado stricto sensu no Estado de Minas Gerais. Amostras de madeira foram obtidas da coleção de referência Xiloteca JOIw para a preparação de lâminas histológicas nas secções convencionais para anatomia da madeira e material dissociado. Atributos quali-quantitativos de lenho foram tomados seguindo o protocolo padrão da IAWA. Índices de condutividade hidráulica foram calculados. Informações etnobotânicas foram extraídas da literatura. Resultados: As características anatômicas apresentadas pela espécie mostram uma clara adaptação do lenho e de sua arquitetura hidráulica em ambientes com restrição hídrica. A espécie ainda possui usos potenciais por comunidades tradicionais que devem considerar formas assertivas de manejo. Conclusão: B. ungulata possui importância ecológica, mostrando convergências estruturais do lenho com outras espécies de Cerrado, e econômica, servindo a sua madeira e outros componentes ao aproveitamento humano.
