Background: The aim of the current study was to elaborate the indigenous knowledge about the use of medicinal plants in the Hindukush range, Tehsil Mastuj, Chitral, Pakistan. The study's goal was to use quantitative ethnobotanical indices to chronicle indigenous knowledge about the treatment of various disorders, as well as to locate and describe traditional applications of medicinal plants in the area to highlight key medicinal plant species by comparing the results to previously published ethnobotanical and pharmacological data. The medicinal flora is on the verge of extinction due to overgrazing and injudicious use.Methods: We conducted interviews with residents of Mastuj. Semi-structured protocols with a free list of plants were used to collect information, as well as botanical collection and identification of mentioned plants. Use Value (UV) and Informant Agreement Ratio (IAR) were used to analyze ethnobotanical data.Results: 44 plants belonging to 25 families were identified. Of them 1 family was gymnosperm, and 24 families were angiosperms. There were 36 wild plants, 4 wild and cultivated, 3 cultivated plants. The information collected from the study area revealed that 38 plants were used for the treatment of various ailments and diseases i.e.

Background: The ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological studies of an area provide the best possible pathway to conventional modern medicine and other conventional. This study was conducted to collect the traditional knowledge about plants from local people and then convey this knowledge to people of world.Methods: The ethnobotanical information was collected through questionnaires, observations and interviews during 2018-2019. The main focus of interviews was to collect information about plants, local names, ethnobotanical uses, plant part uses, diseases treatment, mode of usage and administration. Collected plant specimens with informants were submitted to the Herbarium of University of Peshawar, Pakistan. Quantitative data of the result were analyzed through ethnobotanical indices.Results: The study reported a total of 209 plants of 180 genera and 64 families were utilized by the local people for various indigenous uses. The highest species belonged to Asteraceae with 21 genera and 25 species followed by Poaceae with 16 genera and 18 species. Out of these 209 plants, 152 species were used as medicinal, 48 as fodder species, 32 as fuel species, 25 species as ornamental, 18 species as vegetables, 13 species as fruits and 6 species as food. The selected area plants were medicinally important for stomachic, vermifuge, fevers, cholera, anthelmintic, diabetes, cancer, laxative, antimicrobial, antiviral and antioxidants. Conclusion:The study area has been extensively occupied by medicinal and non-medicinal plants that are being used for significant purposes. This study uncovered the traditional and ethnobotanical knowledge of study area. The unwritten ethnobotanical knowledge of local people about medicinal plants and altitudinal details must be preserved.

Medicinal plants are economically beneficial to heal various diseases and have been significant source of many important drugs. The Cholistan desert has arid type climatic conditions with scattered xerophytic vegetation which have been adopted to intensely high temperatures, humidity fluctuations and wide variety of edaphic conditions. In summer season, the temperature is extremely high but in winter season, it is mostly mild with no frost conditions. The amount of rainfall annually is greatly changing both on temporal and spatial levels. The main objective of the present study was to identify the relationship between soil and atmospheric conditions (temperature, rainfall and humidity) on the growth of medicinal plants during winter and summer seasons. Secondary data of rainfall, humidity and temperature was collected from Agriculture extension department of Bahawalpur and Meteorological department, Islamabad. The analysis carried out using quadrate method and locations were marked with Global Positioning System (GPS). The Geographical information system (GIS) software ArcGIS 10.5 used to illustrate the maps of the study area and the quadrates. In the study area, four sites on the basis of soil structure i.e. Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 were selected. Phytogeographical parameters of plants i.e. number (frequency), density and cover were tapped during October, 2021, February, 2022 and May, 2022. The relative frequency, relative density, and relative cover were counted to ascertain the importance value index (IVI). Based on IVI, in each quadrat the communities of medicinal plant were delimited. The highest IVI bearing medicinal plants was conceived as dominant. Correlation results of Plants with different Soil Types and Rainfall is found positive. The strongest correlation with high R2 value was noted on Interdunal Sandy Soil Area (Q3) and low correlation was existed on Hard Clayey Soil Area (Q4).
