Flow impingement on a perforated plate at an angle of attack

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide both directly applicable fluid-flow results and fluid-mechanic fundamentals for flow impinging at an angle of attack on a perforated plate. Design/methodology/approach A physical situation was modeled with high fidelity, and the model was implemented by numerical simulation. The simulations spanned all possible flow regimes including laminar, intermittent (transitional) and turbulent, and the Reynolds numbers that defined each flow regime were definitively dete… Show more

“…The selection of the SST k − ω turbulence model (Menter, 1994) for application here is based on substantial literature. In this regard, reference may be made to Guo et al (2013), Shklyar and Arbel (2007), and Bayazit et al (2014, 2017) for successful applications of the SST k − ω model to perforated plates and for separated flows. As this model and approach has been verified experimentally by research for perforated plates (Bayazit et al , 2014, 2017), the current paper will present a different forms of validation which will be presented later in Section 6.…”

“…Tanner (2019) studied the quantitative relationship between the flow characteristic and pressure drop for perforated plates. Bayazit et al (2017) found that the pressure drop of perforated plate decreased moderately with an increasing attack angle. Celik et al (2018) determined how different parameters affect the capability of the perforated plates and modified the design by using Taguchi method for optimization.…”
