Multivariate calibration models (PCR and PLS) were developed for simultaneous determination of Fe(III) and Cu(II) with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol and AOT as chromogenic reagent and micellizing agent, respectively. In the presence of AOT the spectrum of Fe(III)-PAN complex was shifted to higher wavelength and the overlapping with Cu-PAN spectrum decreased. It seems that this anionic surfactant enters the structure of the Fe-PAN complex to cause a shift in the absorption spectrum of it. The parameters controlling behavior of the systems were investigated and optimum conditions were selected. Sixteen ternary mixtures were selected as the calibration set. To select the number of factors in PCR and PLS algorithms, a cross validation method, leaving out one sample at a time, was employed. The calibration models were validated with 8 synthetic mixtures containing the metal ions in different proportions that were randomly designed. The best calibration model was obtained by using PLS regression. The method was successfully applied to simultaneous determination of copper and iron in biological samples.

A rapid and sensitive flow-injection chemiluminescence method is described for the determination of dichloro- and trichloroisocyanuric acids based on the chemiluminescence produced during their reaction with luminol in alkaline medium. The effects of analytical and flow-injection variables on these chemiluminescence systems and determination of both oxidants are discussed. The optimized method yielded 3sigma detection limits of 8x10(-8) and 5x10(-8) mol L(-1) for the sodium dichloroisocyanurate and trichloroisocyanuric acid, respectively. The optimum conditions were found to be as follows: NaOH, 1x10(-1) mol L(-1); luminol, 5x10(-3) mol L(-1); KI, 2x10(-3) mol L(-1) and flow rate, 3.5 mL min(-1).

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with gradient elution was coupled to a glassy carbon electrode (GCE)-based wall-jet/thin-layer electrochemical detector (ECD) for the simultaneous analysis of isoniazid (isonicotinyl hydrazide, INH) and rifampicin (RIF). The simultaneous HPLC-ECD analysis of INH and RIF was performed using a reversed phase C18 column (150 mm Â 4.6 mm, 5 mm) using a gradient elution program at a flow rate of 1.0 mL min À1 , and an HPLC-Ultraviolet (UV) detector at a wavelength of 268 nm and the HPLC-ECD at a working potential of 0.9 V vs. SCE were used. Linear calibration plots for INH and RIF were obtained in the range of 0.01-100 mM for INH and RIF. Our walljet/thin-layer ECD gave limits of detection (LODs) of 0.3 and 0.5 nM (S/N ¼ 3) for INH and RIF, respectively, which are lower than those obtained with the UV detector and a commercial ECD. Our method was successfully applied for the simultaneous determination of INH and RIF in an antitubercolosis drug and urine substrate samples.
