Flow of a Hydromagnetic Fluid through Porous Media between Permeable Beds under Exponentially Decaying Pressure Gradient

Abstract: An analytical solution of the flow of a hydromagnetic fluid through a porous medium between permeable beds is obtained and studied. The fluid is under an exponential decaying pressure gradient and the uniform magnetic field in a direction normal to the flow saturated porous medium is considered. Two governing equations, namely Navier-Stokes equations and Darcy's law, are employed for the flow between and through the permeable beds, respectively. Injection and suction of the fluid through lower and upper permea… Show more

“…This section discussed the effects of the internal heat generation and magnetic intensity together with other important flow parameters on a variable-viscosity fluid flow with non-uniform wall temperature. Table 1 shows the rapid convergence of the series solutions for the numerical constants 0 a and 0 b from the equations (18) and (19) which converge at fifth iteration. Table 2 shows the comparison of numerical results of velocity and temperature profiles with previously obtained results in MAKINDE (2008), where perturbation method was used and the present result of which ADM was used.…”

“…Porous medium is the material volume consisting of solid material with an interconnected void space and is primarily characterized by its porosity which is defined as the ratio between the void space and total volume of the medium [11][12][13]. The recent past studies on flow through porous medium used Darcy's law (linear relationship between the velocity distribution and pressure gradient across the porous medium) for mathematical modeling [14].…”

“…Zeeshan and Ellahi (2013) have studied the effect of heat transfer and magnetic field on the third grade fluid in a pipe with porous space. A few more studies on the flows through porous medium for diverse situations are made by Prasad and Kumar (2011), Tripathi (2002), Ellahi et al (2013) and Sheikholeslami et al (2014).…”
