Flower Initiation, Morphology, and Developmental Stages of Flowering-Fruiting of Mindi (Melia azedarach L)

Abstract: The study was aimed to determine flower initiation, floral morphology and to observe the stages of flowering and fruit development of mindi (Melia azedarch L) within a population for one period of time 2008-2009. The methods used were observing directly over the trees and some vegetatives and generatives buds were sampled for dissecting. The observation revealed that the inflorescence type of mindi was panicle, located at the end of a branch. The number of flower varied among inflorescences, ranged between 30-… Show more

“…Demand for mindi wood in this location is increasing every year. In contrary with wood requirement, the mindi material for planting was very constrained with limited seed trees (Syamsuwida et al 2012). This condition also in accordance with Roshetko et al (2004) that stated most of community forests cultivation using seed from farmer own trees were usually originated from 1-5 trees.…”

“…To facilitate provenance allocation, three areas of provenance transfer have been identified according to an analysis of the genetic structure using SSRs and SRAPs associated with adaptability at the seedling stage [ 58 ]. The flowering phenology of M. azedarach , such as the timing of various developmental stages, flowering, and fruiting, ranges from August in Bogor to September in Gambung, West Java [ 61 ]. All the phenological patterns of M. azedarach are indicative of local adaptation.…”

“…Umumnya terjadi kawin silang dengan bantuan agen polinator yaitu kumbang Elaeidobius kamerunicus untuk menghasilkan tandan buah sawit (Razali et al, 2012). Pengamatan terhadap siklus perkembangan bunga hingga buah bisa menjadi acuan terhadap waktu pemanenan (Syamsuwida et al, 2012) dan dibutuhkan untuk mengatasi persoalan-persoalan yang berhubungan dengan produksi buah yang rendah (Camellia et al, 2012). Informasi perkembangan kuncup menjadi calon bunga, waktu perbungaan, dan menjadi buah sangat menentukan keberhasilan sebuah kegiatan perkawinan antar pohon (Baskorowati et al, 2008).…”
