Flower morphology and inflorescence of Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) from Dairi, North Sumatera

Abstract: Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) is a spice plant typical of North Sumatra. Biological information on andaliman flowers is still limited. Therefore, the purpose of this observation is to study morphology of andaliman flowers and inflorescence arrangements that can be useful in understanding andaliman flower biology. The research was conducted on plants in one of the centres of andaliman production in Dairi District. Flower of andaliman is axilliary inflorescence, determinate flowers, dichasium, genera… Show more

“…Permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam upaya perbanyakan andaliman secara generatif adalah daya kecambah biji yang rendah (Siregar 2003). Pada penelitian Siregar (2013) biji andaliman tanpa perlakuan memiliki persentase perkecambahan 30% pada 100 hari setelah tanam. Perkecambahan yang rendah dan umur berkecambah yang relatif lama disebabkan oleh struktur kulit biji yang keras.…”

Andaliman seeds are commonly used in various traditional Batak dishes such as arsik, natinombur, naniura and sambal Tuktuk [3].…”

“…This condition is due to the IOP Publishing doi:10.1088/1755-1315/1183/1/012098 2 tough structure of the seed coat which prevents the imbibition of water and gas exchange in the germination process. The majority of Andaliman grown in North Sumatra grows naturally from seeds dispersed by birds, as well as seeds obtained by farmers accidentally from burning weeds in areas of mature plants [2].…”
