The authors found that in the initial 20-year period after establishment, flower strips absorbed on average 0.48 ± 0.36 Mg C ha −1 year −1 , concluding that the conversion of 1% of the total area of arable land in Germany into flower strips would lead to a reduction in emissions of 0.24 Tg CO 2 year −1 , which equals 0.4% of the current greenhouse gas emissions in this country.…”
