Flowering Syndrome-Hybrid Performance Relationship in Maize 1-Agromonic Traits

Abstract: Abstract:To determine the relationship between flowering syndrome and hybrid performance in some maize (Zea mays L.) crosses, selection on early and late flowering plants was undertaken. Selection was applied on plants of four inbreds; Zm19, Zm32, Zm51, and Zm61. Selected plants were propagated in the next season, grown in the third season and crossed to two testers (Zm21 late, and Zm60 early). The F1 seeds were planted in the fourth season in a randomized complete block design of three replicates in 83'000… Show more

“…Increasing the DTT; and DTS; period gives a better opportunity to form a wider leaf area, which is reflected in the increases in the yield of yellow corn as a result of the large size of the source that feeds the estuary, and decreasing this period provides the opportunity for the plant to flower earlier during the days with moderate temperatures that guarantee a high fertility rate. The; number of grains in the yellow plant corn (5). Showed; analysis of variance to test the significance of differences among the genotypes revealed highly significant differences for most of the traits: this is evidence of good diversity in the genetic material chosen for the study (26).…”

“…Dina; in Table (5) shows the mean squares of genotypes, gca, and sca for studied characters at both seasons in the second location. In the fall season, the mean squares of genotypes were highly significant for all traits except DTS; which was significant, but DTT and Oil% did not significant.…”

“…Hybridization was carried out between inbred lines to obtain seeds of the F1 crosses according to line × tester method which was proposed by (13). The total inbred lines was 16, the breeds were used (1,2,3,4) as parents of the testers and inbred lines (5,6,7,8) as female line, selfing was carried out for inbred lines. at the end of the season, ears were harvested from each of the eight parents and the sixteen crosses.…”
