Flowshop scheduling model for bespoke precast concrete production planning

Abstract: Bespoke precast concrete products are particularly designed and custom made for a construction project. The production planning of these products is complicated that considers important concerns, i.e. the reliability of the product delivery programme, the short lead-time competitiveness, and the effective utilization of purpose-built precast moulds. The planning has a high impact on the success of the production. The characteristics of the bespoke precast production are formulated with the flowshop scheduling … Show more

“…A genetic algorithm was used in their study to search for better production sequences. In the research conducted by Benjaoran et al [7], the Bespoke Precast Flowshop Scheduling Model (BP-FSSM) was established, in which the features of production methods in prefabrication factories were considered. A MultiObjective Genetic Algorithm was also applied to achieve a solution in their work.…”

“…In addition, precast production is a flowshop sequencing problem that can be solved using computational methods. Genetic algorithms have been proven a promising method for arranging precast production schedules (Chan and Hu 2002;Hwang 2001, 2002;Benjaoran et al 2005;Vern, Gunal 1998).…”

“…Due to inaccurate planning methods, inefficient resource utilization and overstocking are common sights in the precast industry (Chan and Hu 2002;Dawood 1993;Low and Choong 2001). Researchers have begun using computational techniques to manage scheduling issues (Chan and Hu 2002;Dawood and Neale 1993;Hwang 2001, 2002;Benjaoran et al 2005).…”

“…They adopted a genetic algorithm approach and compared the proposed method with some well-established heuristic rules [12]. Benjaoran et al studied the impact of the quantity of molds on shop floor schedules of precast production and proposed a bespoke precast flow shop scheduling model by using a flow shop sequencing model [15]. Ko and Wang applied a multiple-objective genetic algorithm to search for optimum solutions with minimum makespan and tardiness penalties.…”
