Fluid activity detection in geothermal areas using a single seismic station by monitoring horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios

Abstract: Subsurface structure survey based on horizontal-to-vertical (H/V) spectral ratios is widely conducted. The major merit of this survey is its convenience to obtain a stable result using a single station. Spatial variations of H/V spectral ratios are well-known phenomena, and it has been used to estimate the spatial fluctuation in subsurface structures. It is reasonable to anticipate temporal variations in H/V spectral ratios, especially in areas like geothermal fields, carbon capture and storage fields, etc., w… Show more

“…In addition to the routine monitoring by FREA-AIST, several studies on microseismicity have been conducted at OGF (Okamoto et al 2018(Okamoto et al , 2020(Okamoto et al , 2021. There were time-dependent microseismic activities near the injection point and far eld, where part of them was correlated with operation activity (Okamoto et al 2018).…”

“…1). Several microseismic studies have been conducted on injection test activity (Okamoto et al 2018(Okamoto et al , 2020(Okamoto et al , 2021. However, the fracture system at OGF is not well known, and there is only known fault system information (Kato et al 2021).…”
