“…The drug loading, encapsulation efficiency, and total cumulative drug release from TMX/PLA/DPPE-PEG NCs were decreased compared with our previous study on TMX-loaded PLGA/DPPE-PEG nanocapsules (Nankali et al 2020). PLA and PLGA degrade by hydrolysis of their ester linkage in aqueous media.…”

“…Accordingly, a comparison between the present study results and findings of our previous research revealed that the cytotoxic effect of loaded tamoxifen in folate-modified PLGA nanocapsules is approximately four times more than PLA/DPPE-PEG nanocapsules on MCF-7 cells. This increase in effectiveness may be related to folate receptor targeting on the cell surface of MCF-7 or the faster release of tamoxifen from PLGA nanocapsules than PLA (Nankali et al 2020). Although the drug release of PLGA nanocarriers occurs faster at acidic pH of cancer cells, high initial burst release of drug as one of the disadvantages of PLGA nanocarriers could result in more side effects (Lu et al 2019).…”

“…2 b shows the X-ray diffraction diagram of TMX-FPGs. The absence of sharp peaks indicates the amorphous nature of the TMX-FPGs resulting from the loading of TMX on the nanocarriers and indicates the disappearance of the crystalline nature of graphene due to functionalization with mPEG2000 and FA [29,30].…”

“…6 a, the effect of these compounds on the cancer MCF-7 cell line at all three times was signi cantly greater than that of healthy HDF cells, and this difference was greater for TMX-FPGs than for TMX-PGs nanoparticles and free TMX. This may be due to the effect of folic acid on the structure of the TMX-FPGs in targeting drug delivery to folate receptor-positive MCF-7 cells [30].…”

“…Over the last decades, nanoparticles have gained great attention in medical sciences [ 1 , 2 , 3 ] especially in the fields of imaging [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ], sensing [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ], gene delivery systems [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ] and drug delivery [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. Several studies have focused on the development of polymeric nanoparticles as drug delivery systems.…”
