Fluorescently labelled glycans and their applications

Abstract: This review summarises the literature on the synthesis and applications of fluorescently labelled carbohydrates. Due to the sensitivity of fluorescent detection, this approach provides a useful tool to study processes involving glycans. A few general categories of labelling are presented, in situ labelling of carbohydrates with fluorophores, fluorescently labelled glycolipids, fluorogenic glycans, pre-formed fluorescent glycans for intracellular applications, glycan-decorated fluorescent polymers, fluorescent … Show more

“…BODIPY fatty acids have been demonstrated as useful membrane probes. [26,27] These fatty acids can be incorporated into cell membranes directly due to their amphiphilic nature, or undergo typical lipid transport and metabolism in cells. [28] In addition, BODIPY fluorophores are well known for their ability to form excimers, which causes a red shift in the fluorescence spectrum compared to the monomer form.…”

“…A number of investigations were reported on porosity elimina tion in laser welding using various methods such as: application of a magnetic field on the weld pool [14][15][16], the use of a modulated beam [17], surface preparation [3,18], the use of hybrid laser-MlG or laser-TIG welding techniques [19], and the application of dual spots on the surface [20][21][22]. Only few investigations drew atten tion to porosity reduction by introducing a gap between the welded sheets.…”

“…14 Experimental data, such as titration measurement of binding constant of boronic acid ligand with hydrogen ion or cis-diol compound to give information concerning pK a or dissociation constant, have been the factual confirmations that there exists a jumping change around the pK a . 15,23,24,26,47,[50][51][52][53] And in the vicinity of the pK a value, different pH values could to the largest extent alter the binding force between the boronic acid ligand and the cis-diol compound. And the pH-adjusted binding strength could constitute the feature generation required in pattern recognition; that is, the different binding data from individual pHs could be used to encode the binding events as the selected features and then to discriminate the binding between cis-diol compounds with a boronic acid ligand by the pattern recognition algorithms.…”
