Fluorimetric Determination of Ascorbic Acid in Vitamin C Tablets Using Methylene Blue

Abstract: Ascorbic acid (AA), also known as Vitamin C, is a watersoluble vitamin and needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of the body. AA has vital importance in processes of oxidation and reduction in human organism participating of several metabolic reactions. AA has also been used for the prevention and treatment of the common cold, mental illness, infertility, cancer and AIDS.1) Due to the great importance of AA in human beings, the quantitative analysis of AA has gained increased significance in… Show more

“…Since HA· is a very strong acid (pK a = -0.45), it subsequently underwent a rapid dissociate to form of a relatively stable radical anion (A· -) [26]. *Ru(bpy) 3 2+ was suggested to be produced by the energetic electron transfer between electrochemically generated Ru(bpy) 3 3+ and the radical anion A· -. The deprotonation step of H 2 A was considered as an important factor in the ECL reaction.…”

“…Figure 3(B) is the corresponding ECL intensitypotential profiles. In Fig.3(A), two oxidative waves around + 0.3 and +1.1 V vs. Ag/AgCl, are due to the oxidization of H 2 A and Ru(bpy) 3 2+ at GC electrode. No reduction wave of H 2 A was observed because the oxidized product was immediately hydrolyzed to DHA with low electoactivity.…”
