Fluorinated-Polyether-Grafted Graphene-Oxide Magnetic Composite Material for Oil–Water Separation

Chao Liu,
Lixin Wei,
Xinlei Jia
et al.

Abstract: In this study, a new type of highly efficient and recyclable magnetic-fluorine-containing polyether composite demulsifier (Fe3O4@G-F) was synthesized by the solvothermal method to solve the demulsification problem of oil–water emulsion. Fe3O4@G-F was successfully prepared by grafting fluorinated polyether onto Fe3O4 and graphene-oxide composites. Fe3O4@G-F was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ra… Show more

“…In line with the aforementioned hypothesis, the polymers with a high fluorine loading exhibited a significant hydrophobic nature, which makes them promising adsorbents for benzene. A similar study has used fluorinated polyethers supported by graphene oxide surfaces for the separation of oil and water [54]. Conversely, the cross-linked polymers with low fluorine contents contain reactive C-F bonds and high nitrogen contents, making them potentially effective adsorbents for phenol as a polar solvent.…”

“…The initial response of these polymers towards benzene adsorption during the first 30 min can be attributed to the presence of accessible C-F sites that possess a diminished dipole moment Figure S15. Phenol is a harmful polar organic pollutant commonly found in water, posing a significant threat to both humans and aquatic life [54]. Thus, its presence in the water must be restricted.…”

“…to create new sorption-active materials and improve waste-free production technologies [5][6][7][8]. As a trend, the novel materials being created are composite and/or hybrid materials, both organoinorganic and inorganic-organic [9,10], which acquire new functionality during synthesis. In thistrend, it is possibleto combine such properties as a developed surface and porosity with outstanding physical and chemical activity, sorption and catalytic ability, electrical and magnetic properties, biological activity, strength characteristics, stability in various media, etc.…”
