Fluorine‐Free Slippery Liquid‐Infused Porous Surfaces Prepared Using Hierarchically Porous Aluminum

Abstract: Slippery liquid‐infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) have been receiving increased attention. Fluorinated compounds have been used to prepare SLIPS, but because of bioaccumulation and ecological impact of perfluoroalkyl building blocks, the fluorine‐free SLIPS (F‐free SLIPS) system is preferable for practical applications. Herein, SLIPS are prepared from a hierarchically porous aluminum substrate, tetradecylphosphonic acid monolayer coating, and silicone lubricant oil. The several properties of the SLIPS, including… Show more

“…Despite the potential environmental hazards and high costs of fluorinated oils, they are widely used in the literature as lubricants in SLIPS due to their advantageous properties, such as a wide range of viscosity and superior durability compared to other oils. However, Inoue et al [161] have introduced an alternative solution with the development of fluorinefree SLIPS (F-free SLIPS). These F-free SLIPS are composed of a porous alumina substrate coated with hydrophobic alkyl phosphonic acid and infused with silicone oil, exhibiting greater durability than their fluorinated counterparts.…”

“…SLIPS lubricants can effectively isolate the corrosion of the substrate by the corrosive medium. Especially in the liquid, the lubricants and the aqueous solution are incompatible with each other, and can be stored for a long time, which has a long-term protection potential for the substrate to reduce corrosion [234][235][236] . Table 3 summarizes the innovative technologies applied to the surface processing of magnesium alloys.…”
