Fluorogen-free aggregation induced NIR emission from gold nanoparticles

Abstract: Controlled diluted aqua regia addition leads to NIR (near infrared) luminescence from aggregated gold nanoparticles at 916 nm. This turn-on luminescence has been observed for gold nanoparticles, regardless of reductants used in their preparation. These aggregated nanoparticles are nontoxic and have been used for bioimaging in human liver carcinoma cells.

“…The solution of CB[8] [42] in 8 m HCl was added slowly to 0.80 nm citrate stabilized AuNP [43] with average diameter 16 nm. Addition of 35 mm CB [8] (5 mLo f2 0mm CB [8] stock solution)t o3mL of 0.8nm AuNPs resulted in the development of new absorption peak at 650 nm ( Figure S1 in Supporting Information)a long with the standard SPR (surfacep lasmon resonance) peak of AuNP at 522 nm.…”

“…Concentration of gold nanoparticles was calculated according to methods described in our previous report. [43] TEM imaging was done using aF EI Tecnai G2 20 S-TWIN. Gold nanoparticle samples for TEM characterization were prepared by drop casting of solution onto carbon-coated copper grids with 200 mesh obtained from Icon Analytical.…”

“…Despite its wide application as a therapeutic agent in clinical setting, its structuring and using in form of AuNPs had already been returned to 1971 when antibodies conjugated with colloidal gold were used to directly detect bacterial antigens such as salmonellae [5]. Since then, several studies have been dedicated to clear functionalization of the AuNP in different fields such as cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, immunology and physiology [6][7][8][9]. Using these nanoparticles, conjugated with different antibodies and enzymes leads to production of an extremely wide range of AuNP aiming at setting immunoanalysis and photothermolysis of cancer cells and infectious microorganismsproducing the targeted delivery of drugs, and even setting bio-imaging [10].…”
