“…[S-2-fluoro-α-methyl-4-biphenylacetic acid] (Chart 1) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It has been widely used for several medical purposes, such as treatment of inflammation and pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis, 1 osteoarthritis 2 and soft tissue injuries (tendinitis and bursitis), 3 prevention of migraine headache, 4 treatment of sunburn 5 and acute gout 6 or pain control after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy. 7…”

“…The present study was designed to evaluate the VOLUME 8, NUMBER 3,1988 contribution of presurgical flurbiprofen to extended postsurgical pain relief by comparing two groups of subjects: those who were treated both preoperatively and postoperatively with flurbiprofen 50 mg, and those who received only a postoperative dose of flurbiprofen 50 mg. By evaluating pain relief over a number of hours, we were able to evaluate whether flurbiprofen pretreatment provided a lasting therapeutic advantage over postsurgical treatment. Since presurgical administration of aspirin also reduces postsurgical pain, but to a lesser extent than flurbip r~f e n ,~ we compared the preoperative and postoperative use of ACC-30 (aspirin 375 mg, codeine 30 mg, caffeine 30 mg) to its postoperative use alone.…”

“…Furthermore thermosensitive liquid suppository of etodolac did not cause any morphological damage to the rectal tissues [ 11 ]. Kim et al developed a thermosensitive flurbiprofen liquid suppository ([flurbiprofen/P407/P188/sodium alginate/HP-β-CD (1.25/14/13/0.6/22%)]) composed of poloxamers and sodium alginate and additionally used also α, β, γ-cyclodextrin as well hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) to enhance the aqueous solubility of the drug [ 85 , 86 ]. The results of studies on this dosage form showed that HP-β-CD decreased the gelation temperature and reinforced the gel strength and bioadhesive force of liquid suppository, while flurbiprofen did the opposite.…”

“…In addition, flurbiprofen-liquid suppositories with HP-β-CD displayed higher plasma level, C max and AUC of flurbiprofen than those without HP-β-CD. After rectal administration, the AUC of flurbiprofen did not vary significantly from that of commercial Lipfen (flurbiprofen axetil-loaded emulsion on intravenous administration), after intravenous administration [ 86 ]. The investigation of the effect of bioadhesive polymers on the drug release and pharmacokinetic profiles were also the aim of another study.…”
