Flux de matières en suspension et de cadmium dans le Lot

Abstract: Résumé. Show more

“…The results calculated for 1996 show that about 48% of cadmium flux through the Garonne is contributed by the Lot river. This result is comparable to others obtained since 1990 (Lapaquellerie et al, 1996). Our results also show that 90% of the cadmium output from the Lot is in the particulate phase.…”

“…These values are comparable to those measured since 1990 at Port Pascau for the Garonne basin (i.e. 51 ng l −1 and 1.4 mg kg −1 ) (Lapaquellerie et al , 1996). Taking a mean river water flow of 77 m 3 s −1 in 1996, the dissolved cadmium flux was 0.16 t yr −1 .…”

“…Even if the Cd fluxes have decreased since 1985 as distance from the Gironde Estuary increased (RNO 2000), they remain important, and are currently estimated at 4 to 5 t of dissolved cadmium per year. In the estuarine environment, cadmium sorbed on sediment particles may desorb as the water salinity increases (Latouche 1988, Lapaquellerie et al 1996, Boutier et al 2000. Thus, in the plume of the Gironde Estuary Cd is preferentially in a dissolved form that has a higher bioavailability for living organisms, including shellfish species that were commercially-grown in the estuary, such as the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas.…”

“…This fish inhabits the littoral zone and is found near rocky coasts or sandy beaches with high wave energy in addition to estuaries, lagoons and occasionally rivers [Barnabé, 1978;Quéro, 1984]. Because the coastal or estuarine habitats of the sea bass are also known to be sites exposed to metal ion pollution [Elbaz-Poulichet and Martin, 1987;Latouche, 1988;Jouanneau et al, 1990;Lapaquellerie et al, 1996;Michel et al, 2000] which can temporarily block its lateral line system [Karlsen and Sand, 1987] and thus affect its survival [Janssen, 2000], this potential threat to the continuation of the species motivated us to make a detailed analysis of the functional anatomy of the lateral line system.…”
