Abstract: Monin–Obukhov similarity theory (MOST) is used in virtually all Earth System Models to parametrize the near‐surface turbulent exchanges and mean variable profiles. Despite its widespread use, there is high uncertainty in the literature about the appropriate parametrizations to use.
