FMCW multiple‐input multiple‐output radar with iterative adaptive beamforming

Abstract: This work presents the design of a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) multiple-input multiple-output radar system with collocated antennas. A key part of this article is the modification and application of the iterative adaptive algorithm (IAA) for digital beamforming to an FMCW radar system. The implemented system operates in the 2.4 GHz Industry, Scientific and Medical band with 100 MHz of bandwidth and consists of a transmit (TX) site with four antennas and a receive (RX) site with four antennas. “…Nowadays, HFSWR is widely used in coastal warning, maritime rescue, marine resource development, and many other fields, and it plays an important role in military and civilian areas [ 4 6 ]. Also, a series of innovative research on radar systems made by Ranger, the marine traffic detection EU project, makes the long-distance maritime surveillance radar have a better practical effect [ 7 , 8 ].…”

“…To deal with these problems, many robust beamformers have been presented in recent years. These beamformers can be divided into the following categories: the diagonal loading (DL) methods [2–9], the eigenspace‐based methods [10–14], the sparse reconstruction methods [15–18], and the INCM reconstruction‐based [19–23] methods.…”

“…To combat the small number of snapshots, many sparse reconstruction beamformers are proposed in [15–18]. In [15], an iterative adaptive approach (IAA)‐based beamformer is presented to reconstruct the INCM through acquiring the IAA spatial spectrum.…”
