“…The iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation quantitation (IDEAL IQ) sequence is a new MR fat quantification method that is based on the IDEAL method (11) and that has been used to estimate the fat fraction (FF) within many organs. DCE MR imaging and the IDEAL IQ sequence have shown great potential for use in the assessment of vascular permeability and fat quantification (6,(11)(12)(13).…”

“…The motion-resolved reconstruction provides serial images reconstructed across different motion states, which may have clinical benefits, especially in patients with heterogeneous iron deposition, where focal iron sparing near the liver dome may mimic a lesion and its improved delineation may avert further imaging or invasive biopsy. 47,48 For 4 human subjects (2 healthy volunteers and 2 patients with liver iron overload), ROI-based mean ± SD was measured for each motion state in R * 2 and susceptibility maps as shown in Figure S4. Due to the volumetric change of the liver during respiration, we placed the ROIs in such a way that their positions are progressively translated along the SI direction depending on the liver motion from end-expiration to end-inspiration.…”

“…The soft‐gating and motion‐resolved reconstructions presented similar image quality with no major difference, yet the motion‐resolved reconstruction showed a slightly better delineation of the liver dome, indicating improved motion robustness. “…IDEAL, the ancestor of IDEAL IQ, was shown in an experimental model using ob/ob NAFLD mice not to be influenced by liver iron overload induced experimentally by injection of supermagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) [28], whereas SPIO infused in 14 patients with liver disease and investigated with IDEAL IQ significantly increased R2* in liver (and spine) without modifying hepatic (and spine) PDFF [29]. IDEAL IQ has been shown to correctly analyze liver steatosis in iron overload patients of various etiologies in Taiwan [30], and to correctly diagnose focal sparing of iron and fat in iron overloaded liver of thalassemia and haematologic diseases [31]. Conversely, extensive patchy artifacts on PDFF maps have recently been described in heavily iron overloaded thalassemic patients in Turkey, with liver R2* > 670 Hz/liver T2* < 1.5 ms studied by IDEAL IQ together with artifactual high MRI-PDFF values in these patchy areas [32].…”
