“…Similar plots are provided by Bala et al [2003] on the previous catalogue of Romanian earthquake mechanism solutions [Radulian et al 2002], but their diagrams are represented on different depth segments (crustal and three subcrustal depth intervals). The diagrams for azimuth and dip angles only for mechanisms in Vrancea area are reported also by Sandu and Zaicenko [2008] on a different catalogue assembled from 10 different international catalogs. The angular dia- grams for the largest Vrancea earthquakes (M w ≥ 4.7) recorded between 1977 and 2013 based on the CMT fault-plane solutions (http://www.globalcmt.org/) are plotted in the Figure 7.…”

“…This method requires the high dense and omogeneous dataset of FPS for the investigated region. All the FPS data from the available regional catalogues, starting from 1967 up to 2006, has been merged into one unique database (Sandu and Zaicenco, 2008) and used in this study.…”

“…Some seismic precursors may carry information on the processes occurring in the seismogenic zone (Watts and Burov 2003;Hayakawa 2012;Petraki et al 2015;Ouzounov et al 2018), and among them, the preseismic electric anomaly (PSEA) has attracted the attention of geoscientists because it suggests a link between the EQ occurrence and the observed electromagnetic (EM) signals (Gaffet et al 2003;Varotsos et al 2003;Vallianatos et al 2004;Freund et al 2006;Haines and Pride 2006;Konstantaras et al 2008;Ren et al 2012;Sevgi 2014;Gao et al 2015;Petraki et al 2015;Hayakawa 2018;Shebalin 2018;Wang et al 2018). The formation mechanism of the PSEA was illustrated by 1) the streaming potential (Morrison et al 1979;Merzer and Klemperer 1997;Bernabé 1998;Jouniaux et al 2000), 2) piezoelectricity (Bishop 1981;Sadovskii 1986;Chen et al 1999;Ogawa and Utada 2000;Gershenzon and Bambakidis 2001), and 3) the combination of electrons and holes acting as a battery when certain rocks are under stress (Freund 2000;2007a;b). Those physical explanations were well constrained by experiments or simulations but weakly supported by geology.…”
