Foliar Flavonoids from Tanacetum vulgare var. boreale and their Geographical Variation

Abstract: Foliar flavonoids of Tanacetum vulgare var. boreale were isolated. Eight flavonoid glycosides, 7- O-glucosides of apigenin, luteolin, scutellarein and 6-hydroxyluteolin, and 7- O-glucuronides of apigenin, luteolin, chrysoeriol and eriodictyol were identified. Moreover, eight flavonoid aglycones, apigenin, luteolin, hispidulin, nepetin, eupatilin, jaceosidin, pectolinarigenin and axillarin were also isolated and identified. The flavonoid composition of two varieties of T. vulgare, i.e. var. boreale and var. vul… Show more

“…It is well known that apigenin and luteolin, are the main constituents of parsley, celery, green peppers and chamomile, whereas kaempferol and quercetin are notably found in apples and onions. However, the sources of 6 OH luteolin and scutellarein that have been identified to date are mostly plant species that are used for traditional medicinal use and are absent from the daily diet (Uehara et al, 2015;Nalewajko-Sieliwoniuk et al, 2015;de Beer et al, 2011).…”

“…Interestingly, both feverfew and tansy have in common hyper allergenic potential due to parthenolide [79, 80]. Tansy is also rich in flavonoid glycosides, 7-O-glucosides of apigenin, luteolin, scutellarein and 6- hydroxyluteolin, chrysoeriol and eriodictyol as well as aglycones, hispidulin, nepetin, eupatilin, jaceosidin, pectolinarigenin and axillarin [81]. The oil contains 1,8-cineole and β-thujone as a major constituent along with carveol, umbellulone, davanone, dihydrocarvone, chrysanthenol, borneol and myrtenol [8285].…”
